PAT METHENY- BRIGHT SIZE LIFE

This album is required listening for anyone who calls themselves a jazz listener. On this album you will hear Pat Metheny at his purist. No effects and no studio wizardry. Just good pure jazz.
This album is not just another collection of jazz standards done in the mainstream fashion by another young guitar stud. Each title is original except for the last track, "Round Trip/Broadway Blues" which was written by Ornette Coleman. Each composition has a fresh and contemporary sound. You will hear all of Metheny's skills as a guitarist, sideman and composer. In addition we are given a glimpse of the things that were later to come as Pat Metheny developed into what is arguably one of the most influential musicians of his generation.

While instrumentation is basic, the musicianship is superb. Pat is accompanied by the late Jaco Pastorius who gives us one of his greatest recorded performances. Bob Moses accompanies Pat on drums and even though his drumming can almost be called minimal it's perfect for situation. Perhaps the best thing about this combination of musicians is way they all played off of each other, each musician coming in just when needed.

This album is part of jazz history. "Bright Size Life" is to Pat Metheny what "Kind of Blue" was to Miles Davis

Hole In the Head: A Life Revealed

Vertus Hardiman hid a shocking secret under a wig & beanie for over 80 years. He was experimented on at age of 5 by a county hospital in Indiana during 1927. Vertus was one of ten children, all experimented on with radiation that day.

Thank you all so much for your visit and your comments.

The release of the film (DVD) and book is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, 2011. Please spread this YouTube video and help us to reach 1 million views before the release and join our mailing list at www.holeinthehead.com.

J DILLA ft BILAL (REMEMBER)

THIS IS WASSUP.... ENJOY

BLACK SOUL MUSIC (FREE DOWNLOAD)

ODDISSE - TRAVELING MAN

Instrumental hip-hop albums have been killing it over the past few years. It seems they have been going that way ever since the late J Dilla released his epic Donuts album before his death in 2006. Since then, we have heard fantastic records from Stones Throw brothers Madlib and Oh No, who were respectively dropping great albums well before ‘06. But it was their internationally themed records, especially Oh No’s Dr. No’s Oxperiment, that progressed this subgenre of hip-hop. Of course, those are just a couple of the many producers who rightfully gained more shine for their solo work.

Following in that path is Washington, D.C producer (and MC) Oddisee. This multi-talented artist has steadily improved over the years while maintaining the spirit of Golden Age hip-hop. For the perfect example of that, look no further than 2009’s under-appreciated Diamond District album In The Ruff, which featured Oddisee, yU, and X.O. Oddisee wasn’t satisfied with riding the success of that record, as he has crafted free seasonal releases on top of his latest project, Traveling Man.

This expertly crafted album, which screams to be played in your headphones, is an international hip-hop journey, in every sense. Oddisee actually created this while touring the globe: He crafted each song while in its respective city. As such, you can really feel the bouncy funk when listening to the Zapp-influenced “South Central”. Try not to get the chills as the breeze of Sweden creeps forth on “Stockholm”. Those are only a sampling of the 24 tracks offering a boom-bap trip across the world, from the handclaps and synthesizers of “Atlanta” to the jazzy grooves of “London”.

Madlib Medicine Show #12: Raw Medicine - Madlib Remixes

Pre-order available for September 27th release. Early shipping via Stones Throw.

Announcing live Medicine Show dates in November & December.

When Madlib launched the Madlib Medicine Show last year, the original idea was twelve releases, one a month, alternating between original works and mixtapes spanning different music genres. For the most part, he kept his word - it just took a little longer to finally see number 12. For us, presenting the Medicine Show series has been a grand experiment. Musically, the series represents a lot of what we listen to when we're around Madlib - jazz, dub, prog rock, disco, soul, and his very own kind of hip-hop. So here it is ...

Madlib Medicine Show #12: Raw Medicine is the latest collection of new Madlib Remixes, featuring a host of un-suspecting collaborators that run the gamut from thugs, street poets, star emcees and underdogs. We ain't naming names. The show runs 60 minute with 30+ tracks.
